White Nut Bread

¾  cup sugar                                                                3 cups flour
2 Tbs. soft shortening                                                 3 ½  tsp. baking powder
1 egg                                                                           1 tsp. salt
1 ½  cup milk                                                              ¾  cup chopped nuts

Mix sugar, shortening, and egg.  Stir in milk.  Blend dry ingredients and stir in.  Add nuts.  Bake at 350 F for 60-70 min in greased loaf pan lined with paper on bottom.  Cool before slicing.
